Sault Ste. Marie woman arrested after carjacking incident
MARQUETTE — A Sault Ste. Marie woman was arrested Monday for her alleged involvement in a carjacking incident.
On February 11th at 6:49 p.m., Marquette Police responded to a report that a female subject was attempting to enter people’s vehicles on the 500 block of S. Front Street in Marquette. Upon arrival, officers made contact with a suspect, 29 year-old Cassandra Lynn McKelvie.
McKelvie allegedly opened the door of a vehicle and grabbed the steering wheel, forcing herself into the vehicle while pulling the driver out of the car. The driver of the car managed to get the keys out of the ignition so her car would not be stolen. Marquette Police arrived to the scene a short time after receiving a 911 call from one of the two juvenile passengers in that vehicle.
Charges were authorized by the Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office for carjacking, assault or assault and battery and breaking and entering – illegal entry. The total required bond was set at $45,000.
McKelvie was unable to post bond and is lodged in the Marquette County Jail.
