Police find marijuana grow operation worth $46,000
LAURIUM — Police in the Village of Laurium are investigating a breaking and entering complaint that turned into finding a marijuana grow operation worth $46,000.
The Laurium Police Department responded to a breaking and entering in progress on Calumet Street just before midnight Monday. A neighbor reportedly heard the sound of breaking glass and saw one person near the scene.
Officers searched the residence for any suspects, but they had already fled. A marijuana grow operation was found inside the home.
The homeowner was contacted when he returned home. Police seized the marijuana.
Houghton County Prosecutor Mike Makinen authorized a one-count warrant for controlled substance – delivery/manufacture marijuana. The suspect’s name is being withheld until he’s arraigned in Houghton County District Court.
The Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team (UPSET), Houghton County Sheriff’s Office, and the Calumet Police Department all assisted at the scene.
