Organization hosts Scan-A-Thon to help people digitize their memories

CALUMET — The Keweenaw Time Traveler wants to digitize your memories at their Scan-A-Thon events.

On Wednesday, researchers working on the Time Traveler met with people who brought photographs to share at the Calumet Visitor Center. The photographs were scanned and added to the Keweenaw Time Traveler.

From there, people attached their photos to certain places on the maps and shared their stories about that place with others. The database launched in June, but the researchers still want people to contribute to the Keweenaw Time Traveler.

“It’s been really fun introducing the Keweenaw Time Traveler to people in our community so people are starting to use it at home and adding things and exploring and helping us get information from maps with the crowd-sourcing set up we have,” said MTU Assistant Professor of History and Co-Director of the Keweenaw Time Traveler Sarah Scarlett.

This is the second Scan-A-Thon event for Keweenaw Time Traveler. There is one more on August 23rd from 2-5 p.m. at the Calumet Visitor Center.

People can add their photos and stories at home if they miss the Scan-A-Thon events. Visit keweenawhistory.com to learn more and to use the Keweenaw Time Traveler.
