Exhibition shows a little history
ESCANABA — Hundreds of machines are available to see at a local exhibition show tonight… and we’re not just blowing hot air.
The Steam and Gas Engine Show celebrates it’s fortieth anniversary this weekend in Escanaba at the U-P State Fair Grounds, and organizers say they think it is bigger and better.
Show Chairman and Museum Curator for the U.P. Steam and Gas Engine Association Robert Willis says, “We have moved the things around a little bit. This is going to be the year with the most exhibitors that we have ever had in the forty years that we have been here, and we’re looking to having the largest number of visitors through the gate, also.”
From tractors to antique cars, the show has exhibits with about 300 different machines. Throughout the weekend people show up by the thousands. Willis says that this show and the museum are open to preserve and share a little history.
“Sometimes we really take for granted what we have now,” Willis added, “but we want to preserve these things so that young people, perhaps not even yet born, will be able to see what it was really like and not just pictures in a book.”
The show runs all weekend until Monday night. Tickets are $5 and weekend passes are on sale for $10.
