UPDATE: Semi-truck causes two-vehicle accident
UPDATE — 7:05 a.m. August 12, 2015 (EDT)
Authorities have released more information regarding Tuesday evening’s two-vehicle accident.
Deputies from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office say the eastbound semi-truck was driven by 35-year-old David Spooner of Iron Mountain. 19-year-old Antonio Gravedoni of Iron Mountain was the driver of the pickup truck.
Police say a female passenger in Gravedoni’s pickup received a minor injury to her finger, but there were no other injuries. The pickup was totaled in the crash. Alcohol and speed were not factors in the crash.
The Michigan State Police, Ishpeming Township Fire Department, and UP Health System – Bell EMS assisted at the scene.
ISHPEMING TOWNSHIP — A two–vehicle accident involving a semi snarled traffic in Ishpeming Township this evening.
The accident happened at the intersection of US–41 and North Lake Road just after 5 p.m. The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office says that an eastbound semi–truck was in the center turn lane, when the driver decided to turn right onto North Lake Road.
The semi–truck turned right into the path of a pickup truck that was headed east on US–41. The pickup slammed right into the passenger side of the semi. Luckily, no one was hurt.
As a result of the accident, the semi–truck spilled diesel fuel onto the highway. Both vehicles were towed away from the scene.
The driver of the semi was cited for an improper turn. Traffic was slowed down to one lane in each director for more than an hour.
