Local law enforcement throws a party for community
NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP — Often times when we hear sirens and see flashing lights and hear sirens, it’s a bad sign, but today, it meant it’s time to party.
Today was Negaunee Township’s third annual National Night Out. It’s a party for the entire community and hundreds turned out to ride in the fire truck, try out the fire hose, and have a little dinner.
“It’s a good chance for EMS, fire service, [and] police to get together with the public to just have fun. Normally when we get together, it’s something bad, an accident, a fire and tonight is just about having a good time. Talk to us! Have a ball!” said Negaunee Township Fire Department’s First Captain Dale Rogers.
The event has become more popular every year. Marquette County Under Sheriff Mike Klein was in attendance and he said he’s never seen it so big. But, it’s not just about fun.
“The kids will learn a lot. The smoke house is very, very educational, learn how to put out an extinguisher. A lot of adults have extinguishers in their home. They have no idea how to use them,” added Rogers.
If you missed out on the fun today, not to worry. There are other Night Out events throughout Marquette County. Here are some upcoming dates:
