Calumet Seeks Community Input on Updates to the Village Master Plan
Calumet has begun the intensive work to update the village’s master plan. The village’s last master plan update was five years ago in 2018. Master plans help village leaders take resident ideas for where they live, and bring them to fruition. Typically master plans include goals for areas of the village, highlight infrastructure residents want maintained or improved, and allow the village to have open discussions about the state of the village. During the past two years village leaders have worked with various entities to remove blighted structures, and promote small businesses and local entrepreneurs starting in Calumet.
“In the past, the survey has gone out to mostly just Calumet residents. But now, we kind of want to hear from everybody. Maybe they don’t live in the village, but they live in the township. Or they don’t live here, but they visit often. We want to hear ideas from everybody. And some questions will help us to identify who those respondents are. So we can kind of track some good information about what our visitors want to see in the village. Versus the issues our residents need to be addressed.” – Megan Haselden, Village Manager, Village of Calumet
Calumet hopes to create an update that will allow the village to continue its growth. Hard copies of the master plan survey are available at the Calumet village office. An online version has also been posted on the village’s website. Village officials ask that residents wishing to participate in the master plan survey please submit responses no later than November 15th.
