South Range Seeking Sponsors for Fourth of July Celebrations
For nearly a century, village residents in south range have thrown a grand Fourth of July celebration. While there are many other fourth of July festivities throughout the copper country, south range 4th of July committee president Mike Renier, says that the entire community pitches in. From those who come to visit and enjoy the parade, to the firefighters that launch the fireworks show. But more important are sponsors, who help support the village’s activities.
“We get donations, and those donations go toward the firewaorks display. Those cost 11,000 dollars this year. And we decided to spend a little more money on our fireworks this year. There’ll be larger shells shot off for the show. So it should be able to be seen from far way even. Our sponsors names will be added to our facebook page. And they’ll also be put on a banner that night at the 1902 Bar and Restaurant.” – Mike Renier, South Range 4th of July committee, President
The south range fourth of July will include the usual fun and games. And of course a parade through downtown, that will feature local sponsors who support the celebration, and plenty of military vehicles.
“We have music events, and parade prizes. Those are cash prizes for parade floats. For kids we are having kids racs at the baseball fields that’ll be run by the fire department. There will also be bouncy houses there. Then if they decorate their bike for bike parade they’ll get five dollars for being in the parade.” – Mike Renier, South Range 4th of July committee, President
During the day there are a lot of fun activities. For both kids and adults. Fun for the kids will include a bike parade, kids races, and games in the park at the south range baseball fields. For parents, the copper range museum will host tours on the history of South Range.
“For older people, the Copper Range Historical Museum will give tours, and we also have at Keweenaw Brewing tours and sampling. And live music on main street from f pm to 10 pm in South Range. Followed by our fireworks at dusk.” – Mike Renier, South Range 4th of July committee, President
