MARQUETTE – Marquette native and accomplished Broadway actress Leah Hocking is returning to her hometown to present “Out of the Window,” an evening of songs and stories about her life and career. The show will take place at Northern Michigan University’s Forest Roberts Theatre from June 28 to June 30.

Hocking, who has appeared in 10 Broadway shows, including “Billy Elliot,” “Mamma Mia,” and “Hairspray,” expressed her love for Marquette and her desire to perform a show there. She sees Marquette as a beautiful place and cherishes her connections to the area.

During her time at NMU, Hocking participated in various productions, gaining valuable experience and preparation for her future career in the theater industry. She transferred to Ohio State University before eventually moving to New York City to pursue her acting career. Hocking’s Broadway credits include shows like “Guys and Dolls,” “Grease,” and “Jekyll and Hyde.”

While the pandemic affected the theater industry, Hocking remains optimistic about its recovery. She continues to work on new plays and projects, enjoying the opportunity to create new characters.

Her three-night run at NMU will feature a mix of songs from her previous productions and new songs that she has never performed publicly. The show is directed by her longtime friend and former musical director, Steve Marzullo. The technical aspects of the show are handled by NMU Theatre & Dance staff.

“Out of the Window” contains some adult language and themes. An opening-night reception will follow the June 28 performance. Tickets are available for purchase online.
