Lightning Strikes Three Times In Escanaba Causing Fires
ESCANABA, Mich -You’ve heard the phrase, lightning doesn’t strike the same place twice.
Well, yesterday in Escanaba seems to be the exception to that rule.
Yesterday, the Escanaba Public Safety Department responded to three fires caused by lightning strikes.
The first fire was at 3:42 PM on 12th street in the attic of a two apartment structure. A man and his dog got out safely. It took two and a half hours to put that blaze out.
The Escanaba Township Volunteer Fire Department extinguished a tree on fire during that same time period.
As firefighters were wrapping up the first fire, an abandoned house on 20th street caught fire.
The EPSD said the third fire also started in the attic and was extinguished quickly.
One firefighter suffered a minor injury in the first fire.
Other firefighters suffered fatigue due to hot and humid weather conditions.
The EPSD was assisted by 10 other agencies.
