Marquette County Sheriff’s vehicle stolen, found later in ditch

MARQUETTE — One suspect is in custody after a sheriff’s vehicle was stolen Wednesday morning in Marquette.

A vehicle belonging to Marquette County Sheriff Greg Zyburt was parked outside Sunny 101.9 FM, as he was interviewed by the radio station.

Sheriff Zyburt returned to where he had originally parked, only to find his vehicle missing.

Zyburt called his deputies, thinking it was moved as a prank. As deputies told Zyburt they had no idea what he was talking about, central dispatch notified him of a marked sheriff’s vehicle in a ditch on Forestville Road. Deputies found the vehicle, and used tracking K–9 Deja to locate the suspect.

The suspect was taken into custody and charged with Unlawfully Driving Away an Automobile.

It’s currently unknown how the suspect got into the vehicle, as Zyburt recalls locking the vehicle before leaving it.
