Marquette Lions Club to host can and bottle drive to benefit community
MARQUETTE — The Marquette Lions Club is hosting a can and bottle drive on Saturday, August 8, at Lions Lakeside Park. They’re calling on the community to help.
Much like the Lions Club’s drive to benefit pediatric cancer patients earlier this summer, the proceeds from Saturday’s can drive will go toward the club’s concentrations. Those concentrations include vision, environment, hunger, childhood cancer, and diabetes. The club is also working to improve the Marquette Lions Lakeside Park.
“All the members of the Lions Club internationally and here locally are very committed to community service,” explained club member Gretchen Preston. “We say, ‘Where there’s a need, there’s a lion.’ We’ll be giving the money from your cans and plastic bottles to help people right here in Marquette.”
Cans and plastic bottles will be accepted at the drive, as well as eyeglasses and hearing aids.
Donations will be accepted from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Those who wish to donate are asked to stay in their vehicles while masked volunteers collect their cans and bottles. The Marquette Lions Lakeside Park is located at the intersection of Fisher Street and South Front Street.
