UPDATE: Body of missing Wisconsin woman recovered at Rainbow Falls

UPDATE — The woman who went missing at Rainbow Falls in Wisconsin was found deceased on Tuesday.

At approximately 4:40 a.m., Gogebic County sheriff’s deputies recovered the body of 22-year-old Stephanie Narvaez of Watertown, Wisconsin. Her body was found at the base of the falls in Ironwood Township.

Narvaez and a companion, 22-year-old Karl Nelson of Milwaukee, were hiking above the falls last Saturday evening when she attempted to cross the Black River. She slipped into the water and was carried over the falls. Initial rescue attempts were unsuccessful.

Agencies that assisted in the search included the Gogebic County Search and Rescue Team, Michigan State Police Wakefield Post and Michigan State Police Dive Team, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, USFS personnel, Beacon Ambulance, Ironwood Township Fire, and the Gogebic County Victim Services Unit.
