Read UP Bookmobile collecting can and bottle donations
MARQUETTE COUNTY — With deposits closed across the state, many people have cans and bottles piling up in their homes. The Read UP Bookmobile is collecting any unwanted bottles and cans to help with future event fees.
Owner Melissa Derby says she wanted to wait until those who needed the donations most had time to collect them before she began to accept them herself. She’s still collecting books to redistribute to the community, and the money brought in through these donations will help her to continue doing so once events and organizations open back up.
“I wanted to make sure everybody else really got a chance to get their fill of the soda cans that they needed for their organizations first, because I really don’t have a lot of overhead for mine,” said Derby. “But I do have some costs, like the cost for tables and shelving and fuel and stuff like that. And I’ve still been taking books. But if they don’t have any books and they have cans that are sitting and piling up that they don’t want, half of my garage is completely empty and that’s where we’re going to store them until hopefully we can get out and do stuff.”
