Marquette Area Blues Society makes donation to Music For All Kids
MARQUETTE — Earlier this week, the Marquette Area Blues Society made a special donation to a local nonprofit that helps young people learn to play instruments.
The Marquette Area Blues Society presented a check for $250 to Nicklas Johnson, Program Director of Music For All Kids. Music For All Kids offers private and group music lessons free for the community.
Johnson says this donation will serve a twofold purpose. It will help Music For All Kids to keep fulfilling their mission, and it will ensure that more young people are introduced to and taught how to play the blues.
“It means they’re working towards their initiative of keeping blues music alive,” said Johnson. “I’m a big fan of the blues. And it’s going to help us accomplish our mission by teaching lessons to young students such as Jace here, who’s working on some rock ‘n roll songs, and passing the blues along to a younger generation. It’s really great to see that support from our community.”
Learning to play an instrument can help young people, like 9th grader Jace Moore, both educationally and emotionally. For Johnson, that’s what it’s all about.
“Music shapes anybody’s character, but especially the youth character in so many ways,” said Johnson. “It’s always proven to help educational goals, but in general for me, it really just helps the emotional health of an individual.”
