Individuals arrested in traffic crashes, suspicion of driving under influence

MARQUETTE COUNTY — A Trooper from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Negaunee Post responded to a traffic crash on M–35 near County Road ML in Richmond Township around 6:49 AM.

Prior to arriving on scene, Marquette County Central Dispatch advised the Trooper that a second vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed and rolled over in a citizen’s front yard, South of the first traffic crash location.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department responded to assist with the two traffic crashes.

A Marquette County Sheriff’s Deputy investigated the first traffic crash in which a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old man from Gwinn, was traveling northbound on M–35, left the roadway and struck a tree.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Deputy took the 18-year-old driver into custody for suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and several other charges.

The 18-year-old was treated for minor injuries at UP Health Systems Marquette and was subsequently lodged at the Marquette County Jail.

The Michigan State Police Trooper investigated the second traffic crash in which a vehicle occupied by a 20-year-old Ishpeming man and an 18-year-old Ishpeming man were traveling southbound on M–35 when the vehicle left the roadway and rolled over.  The Trooper took the 20-year-old man into custody for suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and several other charges.

The driver was transported by UP Health Systems Marquette EMS to UP Health Systems Marquette for treatment of minor injuries and then was lodged at the Marquette County Jail.

UP Health Systems Marquette, Richmond Township Fire Department, Marquette County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police were all involved in these incidents.
