Counterfeit money found in the Keweenaw
HOUGHTON — The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating several counterfeit money complaints.
On December 21, 2018, a large number of counterfeit money were recovered.
The bill resemble normal currency but often contain Asian symbols and/or characters.
The investigation is ongoing.
Businesses are urged to be mindful this holiday season when cash is being exchanged.
An unknown amount of bills may still be in circulation in Houghton County.
The Sheriff’s Office is collaborating with and has been assisted by the Houghton City Police Department, Baraga County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police Calumet.
