UPDATE: JULY 17th, 10:25 A.M. — Detectives from the Michigan State Police (MSP) St. Ignace Post have identified the victim whose remains were discovered when troopers responded to a burning vehicle last week.

Using dental records, detectives have determined the victim to be Douglas Kievit, 57 of Hessel.

Troopers were called to East Simmons Road, in Mackinac County’s Marquette Township, on Tuesday, July 10, around 6 a.m. following reports of a vehicle fully engulfed in flames in the middle of the road. The remains were discovered once the fire was extinguished.

MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP (MACKINAC COUNTY) — Detectives from the Michigan State Police (MSP) St. Ignace Post are working to identify human remains discovered when troopers responded to a burning vehicle in Marquette Township in Mackinac County on Tuesday, July 10th.

Troopers were called to East Simmons Road around 6 A.M. following reports of a vehicle fully engulfed in flames in the middle of the road. The remains were discovered once the fire was extinguished.
