NEGAUNEE — The city of Negaunee is preparing for their annual extension to the 4th of July festivities. The annual Pioneer Days festival begins this Friday, July 6th. It’s a great way for the residents of Negaunee past and present to celebrate Irontown, USA.

The event is put on by the Negaunee Irontown Association, a member of the Greater Ishepming–Negaunee Chamber of Commerce.

“It’s a group of volunteers, and they work very hard all year long to promote this,” said GINCC Executive Director Kelsey Reyes. “People look forward to it. They come back from out of town if they moved away, and celebrate with their family all week long. Friends come back for the alumni games, there are just a lot of fun things to do that are all Negaunee that people love to come back and reminisce over.”

Some of the headlining events are the alumni softball games, the Pioneer Princess Pageant, the parade, and of course, the Mr. Upper Peninsula pageant. Most events will be taking place in downtown Negaunee.
