Collection for AAUW’s annual book sale begins
MARQUETTE — The first official day of Spring is March 20th, and that means it may be time for some spring cleaning. If you’re cleaning off your book shelf and find unwanted texts, the Marquette Branch of the American Association of University Women is collecting them for their annual book sale.
The AAUW’s book sale is April 26th-28th at First Presbyterian Church in Marquette, and the sales depend on used book contributions from the community. All of the proceeds from the sale contribute to a worthy cause.
“It does fund scholarships for usually people who are finishing up their schooling to help them finish up and, usually, it’s single women,” said Marilyn Klahn, a retired coordinator of the book sale.
“I know of a young lady who is a current recipient and the scholarship is allowing her to continue her education and finish her bachelor’s degree,” added Renee Leow, a member of the AAUW.
Starting March 13th, you can drop off books at one of the following four locations:
- First Presbyterian Church, 120 N. Front Street (donation bin located inside the Bluff Street entrance)
- Marquette Community Credit Union, 1230 W. Washington Street
- U.P. Medical Center, 1414 W. Fair Avenue (donation bin is located in the main entrance near the information desk)
- River Valley Bank, 1101 N. Third Street
