Lincoln Ave., surrounding streets re-open after gas leak
MARQUETTE — Lincoln Avenue and the surrounding streets have been re-opened after a reported gas leak on Sunday afternoon.
At 4:24 p.m., the Marquette City Fire Department was dispatched to a reported gas leak at the Krist Oil Gas Station on 1110 Lincoln Avenue. Fire crews discovered that there was a fairly large amount of gas that was covering the 1000 block of West College Avenue.
The leak occurred as a fuel truck was re-fueling at the station. The leak caused a large amount of gas to free flow out of the storage tank and onto the surrounding area.
Fire fighters worked to secure the area and also evacuated the 1000 block of West College Avenue while sand could be applied on the leak to help absorb the gas that was pooled on the street.
The surrounding streets were re-opened as of 8:30 a.m. Monday morning. All of the evacuated residents have returned to their homes.
The cause of the leak and the actual amount of gas that was leaked are still under investigation.
