GRANT TOWNSHIP — A woman involved in a snowmobile accident about two weeks ago has died from the injuries she sustained from the crash, according to Keweenaw Report.
On January 17th, the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched to a snowmobile accident on Trail 134 in Grant Township. The driver, 27 year-old Julie Mentink of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, was traveling south along the trail when she lost control of the vehicle coming around the corner. The snowmobile went airborne and struck a tree.
Mentink was transported to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital by Mercy Ambulance. She was later transferred to UPHS – Marquette, where she later died from her injuries.
Speed is considered to be a factor in the crash, but alcohol is not. The Ahmeek Village Off Road Rescue Unit, Copper Harbor and Lac la Belle medical first responders assisted on the scene.
