Two in stable, but critical condition after head-on collision
ELY TOWNSHIP — Two people are in stable, but critical condition after a head-on collision in Ely Township on Saturday.
Deputies from Marquette County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to County Road 581 near Island Lake Club Road for a two-vehicle head-on collision just before 6:30 p.m. The crash involved a black pickup truck, driven by a 22 year-old man from Ishpeming, and a silver Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by a 31 year-old man from Ishpeming.
The two drivers were pinned in their vehicles and sustained severe injuries in the crash. Both were extracted from their vehicles and were transported to UPHS – Marquette in stable, but critical condition.
County Road 581 was reduced to one lane for two and a half hours while the officers investigated the accident. Investigators believe alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash, but the accident remains under investigation.
The Michigan State Police, Rescue 131, Ely Township Fire and Rescue, Ishpeming Township Fire and Bell EMS all assisted on the scene.
