Escanaba River Bridge down to one lane next Wednesday

UPDATE: November 21st, 2017 4:30 p.m.

The closure has been rescheduled. The closure will now begin at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 28th and end at approximately 9:00 p.m. the same day. This closure is required to pour concrete for the new westbound highway bridge span.

This work is weather dependent and November 29th has been set as the alternate date.

The closure has been scheduled to allow continuous placement of concrete from the existing bridge deck, which will save approximately four days of construction time. The original schedule had concrete being placed on two separate days, with cure time in between.

The contractor is working to switch traffic onto the new span in early December.

UPDATE: November 21st, 2017 9:35 a.m.

The Michigan Department of Transportation has announced that this closure has been cancelled so as not to conflict with paving work. The closure — for guardrail repairs — will be rescheduled at a later date.

ABC 10 will provide an update once the guardrail work has been rescheduled.

DELTA COUNTY — Next Wednesday, November 22nd, the eastbound lane of U.S.-2/U.S.-41/M-35 at the Escanaba River Bridge will be closed.

The closure will begin at 9:00 a.m. and traffic will be down to one lane. There will be flag control on the westbound lane until the work is completed.

The eastbound lane must be closed to perform guardrail work due as a result of a vehicle crash. Motorists should expect delays and use caution when travelling in these areas.
