NMU Public Safety warning students of phone scam
MARQUETTE — NMU Public Safety and Police Services is warning students of an apparent IRS Scam.
In an email sent to students Wednesday, the department said it has received numerous complaints from students that a caller with a heavy accent is identifying themselves as a Public Safety Officer or a Federal Agent. The caller then states that they have a warrant for the student’s arrest for tax evasion.
Officers say that this is a scam and not to give out any personal information to these callers. NMU will never ask for personal information over the phone or via email.
Any questions or concerns should be reported to Public Safety and Police Services at (906)227-2151.
