MARQUETTE — The 12th annual UNITED Conference wrapped up this afternoon at Northern Michigan University. Many different speakers attended, but one, Kellie Raefalli, Director of Michigan Tech’s University Center for Diversity and Inclusion, presented a piece called “Creating an Inclusive Campus for LGTBQA+ Students.”

Raefalli discussed intervention and supporting inclusion of the student body, as well as the importance of creating a safe place for those students on campus. The audience included NMU staff members as well as members of the public.

“So, this training is more about education and awareness, gives them the language and understanding of the things that students may be going through. That way they can support them better in their roles on campus,” said Raefalli.

The conference lasted for two days and included other presentations by artists, musicians and authors.
