Go Fund Me setup for drowning victim

HOUGHTON — A Go Fund Me account has been set up for a 17-year-old Hancock High School student who passed away following a swimming accident Saturday afternoon.

The student has been identified as Jimmy Bell. He was pulled unconscious from the Portage Canal at the docks on East Lakeshore Drive where bystanders began to give him CPR.

Emergency crews arrived and continued life saving measures and Bell was taken to U.P. Health System – Portage, then to U.P. Health System – Marquette and later to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, before he passed away. Grief counselors were on hand at Hancock Public Schools Monday to talk with students and staff.
