UPDATE: Charge authorized for boating death case

A Marquette man is facing a felony charge for the death of a man who died after falling off of his boat.
According to Alger County District Court, Timothy Preston of Marquette faces one charge of negligent homicide. On August 13, seven people were on a 19-foot wood construction boat Preston owned, when the occupants were tossed into the water after a large wave hit the boat.
Robert Louis, 59, of Lake Orion, MI, drowned. His body was recovered the next day.
A nearby pontoon boat rescued everyone else. Preston is due back in court October 10.

Authorities have released the name of the victim who died after a boating accident Sunday evening in Lake Superior.
The Alger County dive team recovered the body of Robert Louis, 59, of Lake Orion, MI, around 3:00 p.m. Monday. Louis and six other people were on a 19-foot wood construction boat when it took on a large wave on the south side of Autrain Island, sending all seven occupants into Lake Superior.
A nearby pontoon rescued six of the occupants, but was unable to locate Louis. The investigation into the accident is ongoing at this time.

According to an official with the Michigan State Police, the Alger County Dive Team has located a body near the boating accident. The body is being recovered and the identity is not being released at this time. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
AUTRAIN TOWNSHIP — One person is missing after a boating accident last night on Lake Superior.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police Munising Detachment were dispatched to Autrain Township around 6 pm for a report of a boating accident. An investigation into the incident revealed a pontoon boat took on a large wave on the south side of Autrain Island, sending all seven occupants into the lake.
Six of the boaters were rescued and treated for hypothermia, but the seventh occupant was not recovered during the rescue. The Alger County Dive Team and the Michigan State Police Dive Team are continuing the search for the missing boater today.
The investigation is ongoing at this time and updates will be given as the search continues.
