Police department enacts safer streets campaign

SAULT STE. MARIE — “Speed limits were created in order to increase the safety of all of those using the roads.” That’s what Sault Ste. Marie Police Department is stressing to motorists traveling through the city this summer.

Police Chief John Riley and the department have initiated the ‘Safe Sault Streets’ speed enforcement campaign. Riley says the department receives more complaints during the summer about motorists speeding, especially on residential streets.

The department is focusing on strict enforcement of the posted speed limits on all streets within the city. Other traffic violations will continue to be enforced, with an emphasis on issuing traffic citations for speeding.

Officers will use various methods and tools available to them for strict enforcement.
