Man pleads guilty to malicious destruction of property charges

MARQUETTE — A Marquette man arrested on four charges, including malicious destruction of property, entered a plea agreement Friday morning.

Jay Oberg, 19, pleaded guilty to one felony charge of malicious destruction of property, more than $1,000 but less than $20,000, and one misdemeanor count of malicious destruction of property. Oberg and two others were arrested April 24th for shooting out car windows with a pneumatic gun in North Marquette and Marquette Township.

“I was driving around in my car with a couple of friends and we were shooting out car windows. Obviously we all knew what was going on,” said Oberg.

“And when you were shooting out car windows, did you shoot out enough windows to cause damage that exceeded $1,000?” asked Judge Jennifer Mazzuchi.

“I’m sure we did, yes,” replied Oberg.

As part of his plea agreement, two other charges against him were dropped. Oberg will be sentenced September 1st.
