Police peacefully resolve situation at residence

ISHPEMING — A group of local and state police officers were able to resolve an incident peacefully Thursday morning in the City of Ishpeming.

Just after 10:00 a.m., the Ishpeming City Police Department received a call from a relative about a man who was staying at a residence near the area of Fourth Street and Cleveland Avenue was threatening to harm himself. Authorities believed the man had weapons inside the residence.

Eyewitnesses tell ABC 10 police officers had their weapons drawn and surrounded the residence. Ishpeming Police Chief Steve Snowaert says officers were able to get the man to come out of the residence just before 11:00 a.m.

He was not arrested. The man was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation.

The Michigan State Police, Marquette County Sheriff’s Office and Negaunee City Police all assisted at the scene.
