Area schools close due to freezing drizzle, ice
ISHPEMING — Local students got a little bit of a head start on their spring break plans thanks to Mother Nature.
Schools across the Upper Peninsula called off classes Friday morning due to freezing rain and drizzle that fell overnight and into the early morning hours. According to a meteorologist with the National Weather Service Marquette, the heaviest hit area was the South Central part of the U.P.
The town of Arnold received a quarter inch of ice. Many roads and sidewalks were covered with a thin glare of ice.
