Permit to extend the life of Eagle Mine
CHAMPION– Eagle Mine has submitted a mining permit that if approved, would extend the life of the mine through 2023.
Eagle Mine submitted the mining permit application amendment for Eagle East, on Tuesday to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.
According to the mine, preliminary economic assessments have shown the potential for Eagle East to be economically viable, extending mine life, and employment. Claiming it will further stimulate local economic activity related to Eagle operations. No major operational changes will be made if Eagle East is approved. The mine plans to operate using only current facilities, workforce, operating procedures and transportation routes.
Back in July of 2014, Eagle Mine announced the exploratory drilling efforts in Eagle East, had located reasonable prospects for nickel and copper. The new Inferred Mineral Resources will be mined nearly a mile away from the Eagle Mine.
