Coast Guard rescues two people injured in accident

TRAVERSE CITY, MICH. — Two people were medically evacuated off Beaver Island Saturday morning by a United States Coast Guard helicopter.

The Sault Ste. Marie Coast Guard Sector received a medevac request from officials on Beaver Island Friday evening. Due to what’s being described as poor visibility and icing conditions, an aircrew from Traverse City could not immediately respond.

The MH-65 Dolphin helicopter was able to fly to Beaver Island late Saturday morning to medevac two people who were injured in a single vehicle accident. They were flown to Traverse City and ambulances took them to Munson Medical Center for treatment.
