UPDATE: Man dies in accidental shooting

UPDATE — Thursday, November 24, 2016 2:00 p.m.

A 21-year-old man has died as a result of a gunshot wound he suffered Thursday night at a residence in Powell Township.

At approximately 9:22 p.m., police responded to a residence on County Road KCI on the report of an accidental shooting. A 21-year-old man was taken from the scene by ambulance to UP Health System – Marquette, where he was later pronounced dead.

The incident remains under investigation. Police say there is no ongoing threat to public safety.


POWELL TOWNSHIP — Detectives with the Michigan State Police are investigating a shooting incident that took place Wednesday night in Powell Township.

The Michigan State Police – Negaunee Post confirmed the active investigation with ABC 10 just before 11:00 p.m. Wednesday.

The shooting incident took place just after 9:20 p.m. There’s no official word yet if anyone was arrested or injured. We will pass along more information as it becomes available.
