One arrested, another questioned after discovery of mobile meth lab

ESCANABA — One woman was taken to jail after police discovered a mobile meth lab at a traffic stop.

Escanaba Public Safety Officers say the 43-year-old woman from the Soo Hill area was arrested after police observed a blue minivan matching the description and license plate of a vehicle whose occupants had reportedly purchased components for meth manufacture at an Escanaba business. Police stopped the van on the 2200 block of 3rd Avenue North around 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

Investigation conducted during the traffic stop uncovered several components needed to manufacture meth. Officers say they were able to stop suspects from starting to “cook” meth with the components through quick response and detection.

The suspect was taken to the Delta County Jail on meth-related charges. There is no word yet on when she will be arraigned in District Court. The driver of the van, a 21-year-old Escanaba woman, was taken in for questioning. Officers say charges will be sought for the driver pending further investigation.

Escanaba Public Safety was assisted by the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team. Officers would like to commend the individuals who reported the suspects’ actions.
