Man jailed for attempting to break into a vehicle
KINGSFORD — One man is in jail after allegedly attempting to break into a car early Sunday morning.
Kingsford Public Safety officers say they received a call around 3:30 a.m. from the 300 block of Beech Street regarding a person attempting to enter a parked vehicle. Officers followed footprints left in the snow and noted that the suspect stopped at several parked vehicles in the Breitung Avenue area.
The footprints eventually led to a home on the 300 block of Maple Street. Officers knocked on the door, and then noticed a man trying to leave the house through an upstairs window. Officers instructed the man to climb down. Investigation determined that he was the suspect police were looking for. He was taken into custody for the attempted breaking and entry as well as a probation violation.
The suspect is lodged at the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department. The incident remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call Kingsford Public Safety at (906) 774-2525. Officers are reminding citizens to keep their vehicles locked, and they ask that people not keep valuables in their cars.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department and the Iron Mountain Police Department assisted at the scene.
