Suspect identified in NMU alum’s death
FORT MYERS, FL — A teenage girl has been arrested in connection with the death of an NMU graduate that occurred earlier this year in Florida.
17–year–old Yariza Herrera was arrested by police in Fort Myers on Monday. According to ABC affiliate WZVN, Herrera is accused of leaving the scene of an accident that killed NMU alum Mark Evan Shepard on Jan. 25.
Witnesses said the car Herrera allegedly drove hit the car Shepherd was driving into a tree. Shepherd later died at a nearby hospital.
Herrera is charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death. Mark Evan Shepherd graduated from NMU back in 2012. He just 27–years–old.
