School improvement projects are rolling right along
ISHPEMING — Ishpeming School District is in the full swing of it’s improvement projects.
That was the topic of discussion at Monday night’s school board meeting. The district has been working hard in the past months to improve both the middle and high schools as well as the construction at Birchview Elementary. Monday, they voted to ratify a $1.6 million bond to finish up the work.
“We’ve got really big windows in our gym that are being updated, you’ve got an atrium for students, we’ve got new kitchen, we have a new cafeteria. There’s a lot of things out there that have to get done and go into the fine details of what’s happening,” said Superintendent John Summerhill, “It’s going to look fantastic. The windows will help give a little more curb appeal, energy efficiency, let more light in. It’s a fantastic project. It’s already starting to happen even in the middle of the summer here.”
Summerhill says he expects Birchview to be complete by mid-August and the construction projects at the middle and high school to be done by January or February.
