Murder suspect pleads no contest
HOUGHTON — The case against a Hubbell man accused of second degree murder and attempted murder will not go to trial.
43-year-old Paul Moilanen changed his plea to no contest as part of a plea agreement in Houghton County Circuit Court on Friday.
Moilanen is charged in the stabbing death of 48-year-old Marcy LaVigne of Hubbell and the attack on her 14-year-old daughter who survived. A trial was scheduled for later this month. As part of the plea deal, prosecution agreed not to pursue a habitual offender notice against the defendant.
Sentencing will take place on August 31st. Moilanen could spend the rest of his life in prison.
