No more “porta potties” at Marquette parks
MARQUETTE – Four Marquette parks are about to see an upgrade to their restroom facilities.
McCarty’s Cove, Presque Isle Park, as well as Williams and Harlowe Park will see improvements to their bathrooms to the tune of half a million dollars thanks to a Michigan Natural Resources grant. Residents and visitors will no longer be subjected to vault style bathrooms and porta–potties come the end of summer.
“McCarty’s Cove and Presque Isle have vault toilets. The other two, Williams and Harlowe just had temporary restroom, porta–potties brought in every season so all four will have huge upgrades. Those will be huge improvements and I think the public will enjoy having those sorts of improvements in these parks that are key for the city, said Jon Swenson, Assistant Director of Community Services, Marquette.
The city did have to come up with 26% in matching funds but Swenson says the long term economical benefits will be well worth the investment.
