CTE committee discusses what’s been done, what’s to come
MARQUETTE — Members of the Career and Technical Education Committee met in Marquette today to discuss some of their successes and look toward the future.
Looking back the committee addressed Governor Snyder’s shout out during last month’s State of the State address. Acknowledgment from such a high office helps clue in communities downstate to what’s going on in the Upper Peninsula.
“One of the things that we have an advantage for in the Upper Peninsula is we get along better,” said Stu Bradley, Chair of the CTE Committee. “We actually go across party lines and get stuff done. We do a lot of talking but we also follow it up with getting things accomplished. It was a pleasure, really enjoyed getting that recognition, and I think it allowed the downstate folks to realize maybe we got something going special now.”
The committee also discussed things to come such as CTE summer camps for kids and growing NMU’s aviation maintenance program.
They don’t know all that the future holds, but the goal remains the same.
“We’ve got a lot of positive things, but mainly it’s getting kids to think about, and making the right career decisions,” Bradley said. “That’s really what we’re trying to do. We want them to think about the wide gamut of all the different things that are available and pick the best thing for them.”
The committee also extended deep thanks to Eagle Mine for its investment in the Marquette Alger Technical Middle College.
