Harvey road rage suspects arraigned for robbery, assault

MARQUETTE — A father and his two sons were arraigned in Marquette today on robbery charges from a weekend incident that police say was related to road rage but remains under investigation.

The trio appeared by teleconference before Judge Dennis Girard this afternoon in Marquette County District Court. The suspects are each charged with unarmed robbery, and assault with intent to rob while unarmed. Those are each 15-year felonies.

During arraignment, Jeremiah Murphy, 59, of Jacksboro, Tennessee requested a court-appointed attorney but was told by the judge that he’ll have to hire his own lawyer because of his financial assets.

However, Judge Girard appointed attorneys for the man’s two sons. Patrick Murphy, 21, of Skandia will be represented by attorney Robert Juidici. Meanwhile, Daniel Murphy, 24, of Skandia was appointed attorney Keith DeForge.

The Chocolay Township Police responded to the road rage incident just before midnight Friday night. Police say both the victim and suspect vehicles pulled into the Ace Hardware parking lot, where the people in both cars got into a confrontation. Two men were allegedly assaulted and had items taken from them.

One of the alleged victims was treated at Marquette General for a serious head injury and decided to be released. The second alleged victim sought his own treatment for minor injuries.

The Marquette City Police later stopped Jeremiah Murphy’s black Cadillac on the US-41 bypass near Grove Street.

The Murphys are in the Marquette County Jail on $100,000 bond each. Their preliminary exam is set for October 27th.
