Kingsford Public Safety evacuates apartment complex, minimizes damage in fire
Quick action by Kingsford Public Safety officers may have minimized the damage caused by a structure fire at the Diamondhead Apartment Complex Friday night.
Two officers were dispatched to 679 South Westwood Avenue around 7:27 p.m. and arrived minutes later to help evacuate the apartment complex. Two other Kingsford Public Safety officers knocked down the fire shortly after, around 7:30 p.m.
The resident of the apartment where the fire is believed to have originated was transported to Dickinson County Healthcare System by Beacon Ambulance for treatment. Their name and status is not being released at this time. The Red Cross was contacted and will be assisting residents displaced by the fire.
The State Fire Marshall has been called in to help investigate the cause of the blaze, which is still unknown.
