UPDATE: Marquette man hospitalized after overhang suddenly collapses
A Marquette man who appeared to be doing some handy work on his home had to be taken to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after an overhang reportedly fell on him unexpectedly.
Eyewitnesses say they heard it happen around 3:45 p.m. in the 300 block of Summit Street on Marquette’s north side. Marquette City Fire officials say his left arm was pinned between a ladder and his carport roof after the canopy suddenly collapsed. Officials say he had braced the roof structure to make repairs, but the temporary supports failed. Fire crews used cribbing and airbags to lift the roof and free the man, whose identity is not being released. Crew members then walked him to a nearby ambulance who transported the patient to Marquette General Hospital for treatment. Officials say the injuries appeared to be minor in nature.
Fire crews placed several 4×4 braces throughout the area to stabilize the structure. The owner was then contacted to have a contractor brace the structure and deem it safe until repairs can be made.
Both the Marquette Fire Department and Police Department responded to the scene.
