Inmate sentenced to 19 to 30 years behind bars for prison killing
An inmate will serve at least 19 additional years in prison for killing another inmate at the Ojibway Correctional Facility in Marenisco.
Michael Smith, 33, could spend up to 30 more years behind bars for killing Randolph Conner inside the prison in January 2013. A jury convicted Smith of voluntary manslaughter in March after an eight-day trial. He had ‘habitual offender, fourth offense’ status attached to his sentence.
Smith will serve his manslaughter sentence consecutively with previous Wayne County convictions that he’s already serving time for. He’s now being held in the Baraga Correctional Facility.
His co-defendant in the killing, Delorean Henderson, 26, pleaded guilty in January to manslaughter and was sentenced to 10 to 22 years in prison.
The two men have also been ordered to pay more than $64,000 in restitution.
