Attorney General Dana Nessel urges caller ID requirement
We’ve all heard the recent warnings about surges in scam calls.
Attorney General Dana Nessel is urging the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to do something about it.
Today, she pressed the FCC to move up the deadline for smaller phone companies to add caller ID.
“This caller ID technology will be an essential and useful tool in helping consumers feel confident about who is on the other end of the line when they answer a call,” said Nessel.
A 2019 law requires large phone companies to use a caller ID authentication technology. Smaller companies were given an extension until June 2023, but with the recent surge in illegal robocalls, attorney generals on both sides of the aisle want the extension cut short.
They are asking the extension to end no later than June 30, 2022.
