Public hearing date set for recreational marijuana in Marquette
MARQUETTE — A major date to determine the possibility of recreational marijuana retail shops in Marquette has been set.
In a city commission meeting held Monday night, the commissioners set aside October 15th for a public hearing on the possibility of recreational marijuana retail shops within city limits.
Currently, the proposed draft for a recreational marijuana ordinance requires facilities to be at least 500 feet away from any school, religious institutions, and parks, although there is no limit to how many facilities can exist within city limits.
In Marquette, 62% of residents voted to legalize the use of recreational marijuana when the initiative was on the ballot last year.
