Man dies in hit & run

CHIPPEWA COUNTY — Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating a fatal hit and run that occured the morning of July 4th, 2018 on Drummond Island. The incident occured on Water Street.

Deputies arrived on scene and located a 71-year-old male, identified as Thomas Fred Gibbons of Rapid River, deceased in the roadway. Evidence suggests that Gibbons was struck by a vehicle and died as a result of his injuries. The driver did not stop and fled the location of the incident.

This investigation is ongoing at this time. The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance. If you have information, call the sheriff’s office or Chippewa County Central Dispatch.
