Mackinac Bridge re-opened to all traffic
UPDATE — 2:47 p.m. Tuesday, February 24, 2015 (EST)
The Mackinac Bridge is now re-opened.
ST. IGNACE — The Mackinac Bridge was closed to north and southbound traffic just before 10 a.m. Tuesday.
The Mackinac Bridge Authority said low visibility in the Straits of Mackinac and an accident led to the closure. The bridge will remain closed for the morning, or until weather conditions and visibility improve.
Earlier this morning the Mackinac Bridge was under a high wind warning when motorists were instructed to reduce their speed to a maximum of 20 miles per hour, turn on their four way flashers, and utilize the outside lane. As of 9:44 a.m., the Mackinac Bridge closed.
Low visibility in the St. Ignace area caused by blowing snow moving East will likely keep the Mackinac Bridge closed for the next few hours. Here’s a look at the radar as of 10:30 a.m.
For the most current updates visit the Mackinac Bridge Authority’s website at www.mackinacbridge.org. St. Ignace area travelers can tune into 530 AM or 1610 AM for safety information and closure updates.
ABC 10 will also provide an update when the bridge re-opens.
